Magnetic Mounting

Simple steps to fitting a sensor to your machine using magnets

This quick start guide will help you fit the MachineSense control and associated equipment to your machine. The guide will show recommended fitment locations and further tips for easy install.

What will you need?

1. MachineSense Control (incl. power cable)

2. Operator Interface (incl. clamps)

3. Magnet mounts (fitted)

4. Interface to MachineSense cable

5. Coated security cable (incl fixings)

6. Zip ties

7. Cable magnets

Step 1: Finding the best location for your MachineSense

The primary and recommended location for the MachineSense is the front left of the machines roof. For metal roofs, the MachineSense can easily be positioned with the magnetic feet attached to the base of the unit.

The table below shows the recommended fitment locations:

Fitting Location

Recommended

Next to an exhaust vent

No

On an engine bay inspection hatch

No

Across a delineated walkway

No

On the side of the machine

No

On a surface with a high probability of physical contact with the working environment

No

Inside the cab

No

Across any moving parts of the machine

No

On the roof

Yes

On the supplied 90 degree bracket

Yes

Alternative fitting options:

If your machine doesn't have a metal roof, but does have a safety rail, follow this guide.

If your machine doesn't have a metal roof or have a safety rail follow this guide

Step 2: Preparing the roof surface for fitting

Ensure the area on the roof is clear of any other obstruction and clean the area of any obvious contaminants. Use a non-abrasive cleaning agent if required.

Step 3: Connecting the MachineSense

Place the MachineSense on the roof in a suitable location and make sure all four magnetic feet have good connection with the roof surface. The supplied magnets are very strong to avoid movement during operation, so make sure the position is suitable and does not impede or obscure other hardware fitments on the roof.

Step 4: Plug in the MachineSense

The MachineSense comes fitted with a 1 metre power cable. This cable plug needs to be connected to the Universal Power Adaptor. Make sure the external power cable is directed to the back of the machine, as this should be connected to the Universal Power Adaptor's RJ45 port.

The Universal Power Adaptor is fitted to the rear screen of the driver's cab just beneath the roof edge. For instructions on how to fit this, click HERE

Step 5: Connecting the Operator Interface

Run the Operator Interface cable from the MachineSense on the roof to the front screen of the machine for connection to the Operator Interface bracket.

Fit the Operator Interface bracket to the grab rail on the ingress side of the driver cab. Position the bracket so the operator can see the display during operation. Wind self-amalgamating tape around the grab handle in both positions of the clamps and ensure the clamps are secure when tightened, so the bracket cannot move, before connecting the cable.

The bracket can be pitched downwards where fitting is high on the rail to enable better visibility from the driver.

Step 6: Connect the Interface cable

Connect the supplied RJ45 cable to the Operator Interface and tighten waterproof gland nut.

Step 6: Tidy up excess cable

Tidy and secure all loose cables by using the cable magnets and zip ties supplied. Keep cable loops to a minimum and make sure all zip tie ends are removed before re-deployment of the machine.

Step 7: Add further security to the MachineSense

For added security, connect the supplied coated wire cable to the MachineSense' security eyelet. Loop the free end around a suitable and fixed point on the roof of the machine, either an existing bolt or around the mirror arm and then back on itself. Using a ferrule clamp, compress the cables together so the MachineSense is secure if dislodged or if an unauthorised attempt to remove the device occurs.

Step 8: Power up and test the MachineSense

Once the MachineSense unit is secured to the roof of the machine and the Operator Interface bracket is set to the correct position, turn on the machine and run it at idle for 5 minutes. During this time the Operator Interface will illuminate through a start-up sequence. The LED colour during this process will be Green. The MachineSense module will search for a GPS lock and run an internal start procedure.
